ART - A Gala Musical Tribute to Art Wood and Celebration of his Life concert tickets, York House, Twickenham On Sunday 25 March, a host of musical celebrities and performers from the world of rhythm 'n' blues, rock 'n' roll and other aspects of showbiz will be at York House, Twickenham to perform at ART - a Musical Tribute and Celebration of the Life of Art Wood who passed away on 3 November 2006 after his fight against prostate cancer. All proceeds from this special gala event will be donated to The Prostate Cancer Charity. A special feature of the night will be a 'For One Night Only' line-up of 'The Art Wood All-Stars', the popular band Art formed at the start of the Millenium to play at The Eel Pie Club and other prestigious venues. The Art Wood All-Stars was composed from a pool of the many regular musicians who support The Eel Pie Club, including his brother Ronnie Wood (Rolling Stones), TV personality, Mark Lamarr, Chas Hodges (Chas and Dave), John Idan (The Yardbirds) Joanna Ruocco (drummer ex Style Council), Mick Green (The Pirates), Don Craine and Keith Grant (The Downliners Sect), Mickey Waller (ex Jeff Beck Band), Dave Walker (ex Savoy Brown), Dave Lennox (Blodwyn Pig), Roger Cotton (The Peter Green Splinter Group), Ray Majors (ex Mott The Hoople), Mick Avory (The Kinks), Pete French (Leaf Hound, ex Cactus and Atomic Rooster) and more. In addition, Ronnie Wood will sign a print of one of his paintings to be auctioned on the night and there will be a chance to win tickets to see both Rod Stewart and Genesis at Twickenham Stadium. Art Wood started playing skiffle as a student at Ealing Art College. His rhythm 'n' blues career blossomed when he became vocalist for Alexis Korner and Blues Incorporated . He then went on to form his own band, the aptly named The Artwoods, in 1964. They became 'mod' icons and earned the reputation as the hardest working R & B band on the circuit, performing many times on TV's Ready Steady Go. The band split in 1967 and in 1969 Art formed Quiet Melon with brother, Ronnie Wood, Jeff Beck, Rod Stewart, Ronnie Lane, Kenny Jones and Ian (Mac) MacLagan and after Art left, the remaining members of the band went on to form The Faces.
